PALM DESERT HOUSE | 2021

The Palm Desert House project is the result of a multi year collaboration effort with James Wright Gallery in Los Angeles to realize a hybrid residence/ art gallery space. The organizational strategy instills the experience of an intimate art gallery punctuated by light-filled incisions, an open courtyard, and outdoor poolside living spaces. The low-sloping roof lines and deep overhangs draw connections to the regional mid century modern residential typology. Building on this notion, the massing strategy avoids a traditional floor, wall, roof composition; instead blending all elements and shifting focus to a protective outer shell v. pristine interior elements. Secondary living spaces are separated from the main flexible entertaining and art viewing spaces through incisions in the massing and the courtyard. Sleekness and minimalism of architectural elements provide an experience of art gallery exhibition quality, scale and uniqueness.
